Karen K. Hoffmann served as the associate director of SPICE from 1988 – 2011, training the vast majority of infection preventionists in long term care, as well as acute care, psychiatric, military, and VA hospitals in North Carolina during that time. She is currently the Infection Prevention Specialist with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). She is a Fellow in the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and is certified in Infection Control. Ms. Hoffman was the 2019 President of the National Association of Infection Control Professionals (APIC).
The purpose of the scholarship is to reduce the cost of attending the course, Infection Control in Long Term Care Facilities.
The Karen K. Hoffmann Scholarship is for a health care provider or administrator planning to attend IC in Long Term Care Facilities, fall or spring course. Recipient will be expected attend the Long Term Care course within one year of receiving the scholarship.
Who is eligible: Any health care provider or administrator, working or desiring to work in infection prevention in a long term care setting.

- The scholarship winner will be selected by a drawing from eligible submissions.
- Course registration fee will be waived for the scholarship recipient. If the course is not taken within one year of receiving the award, the scholarship will be forfeited.
